Magnesium for depression

Sixty depressed people with low magnesium levels participated in a randomized placebo-controlled trial. The results showed the taking 500 mg magnesium oxide daily for 8 weeks improved magnesium status and reduce depression. The researchers conclude “assessment of the magnesium serum and resolving this deficiency positively influence the treatment of depressed patients”.

Chamomile tea improves sleep quality and depression in postnatal women

Camomile and TeaIn a study of 80 Taiwanese postnatal women with poor sleep quality, those who drank chamomile tea for a period of 2 weeks had significantly lower scores of sleep inefficiency and symptoms of depression. The authors conclude ‘Chamomile tea may be recommended to postpartum women as a supplementary approach to alleviating depression and sleep quality problems’.
